Having lots of products doesn’t guarantee adoption at the same rate. Quite the opposite in fact.

PC resolutions have been steadily increasing. Console standards have been driven by product adoption. There have been no quantum leaps in television technology in the past three years that would prompt an entirely new iteration on a console.

And again, that’s why they’re not replacing them as often anymore.

Technology has always been moving quickly. This is not a new situation. Consoles have always been underpowered compared to PC hardware at the time of release. A four year cycle puts the consoles as shorter than the Sega Saturn and/or Dreamcast. That’s significantly shorter than they should be.
