Ok, so don't watch the documentary, but then it's simultaneously kind of silly for one of your talking points to be your proud ignorance. Your one anecdote isn't data.

So it's cauase black hair is political and nobody elses is. Fullstop. Like nobody is gonna kick a Jewish girl out of school or fire her if she doesn't straighten her hair, which itself is something she can achieve without a host of scary chemicals aiding the process. So I fully respect the authors "hey y'all, let's

Now why do you think we are bombarded with messages that straight, sleek hair is beautiful? Could it be because curly, frizzy, kinky hair was associated with the racially undesirable? Back to my original point.

OMG, what the fuck is an "ethnic" Jew?? LOL

Knowledge: DROPPED.

*headdesk* at how this thread has become exactly what the author was trying to avoid.

The fact that people are trying to state in earnest that this is akin to "trivializing the experiences of people of color who aren't non-white enough" is frankly fucking absurd

I'm over here just trying to figure out if I'm non-white enough by your standard. Oh, wait: it doesn't matter because this post is a discussion of the black experience, as explained by the original author.

I get what you are saying but I don't think the 'Jew fro' has been established as a common ethno-racial marker for Jewish people, ethnic Jews or otherwise for this to be a thing. In the Jewish diaspora, to my knowledge, there are not a majority of Jews with a 'Jew fro'. I'm not saying that hair texture is NEVER used

I think that what originally got your comment flack is that you're automatically labeling all Jews as POC when that likely isn't the case, visual identification or otherwise.

Wait, so am I no longer white because we're going off of antiquated ethnic standards?

I mean, if you looked at me— or any member of my family, actually— I'm sure you couldn't tell us apart from ethnically Jewish folks. Same general complexion, same general features. It's not shocking, given trade routes and close geographical proximity throughout history.

Blerg. The author's point still stands - hair texture has been a racial identifier for people of the black diaspora. It's right up there with skin color (obvs) and the half-moon fingernail tests when it comes to ways that the 'one drop' rule has been violently enforced. If whites in North America at least have their

I have to admit that I'm a bit confused here, too. I'm curious where the brightline on 'people of color' falls, because I wouldn't have heaped ethnic Jews as "POC" more than I would, say, my southern Italian cousins. Maybe I'm wrong. . .

I'm genuinely curious what definition of "people of color" you're using.

Perhaps but a good buzz is far different from falling down drunk. They just seem like a bunch of kids who discovered alcohol last week but wanted to give their daytime intoxication an air of sophistication by adding an omelet to it.

There's a place where I live that does unlimited make your own mimosas with a juice bar for like, $12. They bring you a good 8oz of sparkling wine at a time, and they're really good about refills. I have STILL never seen people act like that (post-brunch, anyway - 2am is a totally different story). These people are

That cat actually looks terrified. Cats don't usually pant except when they are under stress. Poor little guy.

Like a houseguest. Marvelous at first and full of possibilities, but if left unsupervised for too long, they can be a real pain.

Well, I'd take that's a given. I was replying to the people who said they wouldn't like this for no reason other than they didn't like it. Not for instances of abuse. Where was I was suggesting this was the case?
