I would have thought it's due to fear. The lower your status is in this hierarchy, the more vulnerable you are to violence, because you have less control over your environment. And since people don't want to be victims of violence, they try to distance themselves from that vulnerability. Hence the "better than that"

I'm not exactly a Whole Foods defender or anything (I'll go there every few months to grab some stuff, but it's hardly my regular grocery place)—- but man, if I don't find it obnoxious as shit when people call it, "Whole Paycheck." Hardee har har. So clever. Much funny. Many original jokes.

Man, that sure was mean of FAFSA to make you take out loans for a degree you couldn't use anywhere.

No, I'm not ignoring the "larger societal pressure aspect". I just don't think that when someone's getting married it overrides reasonable decency and judgment and, yeah, I don't have a lot of patience for people who do think that way. Saying "feelings are rarely driven by what's logical" could excuse anyone's bad

There's a marked difference but that marked difference is how the bride should react when you tell them that you can't afford what's being asked of you. If your bride is a good friend, they'd understand. If they don't, fuck 'em. Jeez, do you think I don't feel the pressure to spend money to do nice things for people I

If I have to go to my grave being thought a "judge-y dick" because I don't think friends should demand other friends do things they can't afford under threat of emotional blackmail, well, you can print Judge-y Dick in great big letters on my tombstone.

So...if you had to choose between having a place to live and going to a party you'd go with the party and be homeless? Because I admire the spirit and everything but shelter is a pretty basic human necessity.

Because militarization of the police.

I confess, I don't have a ton of sympathy for what essentially boils down to "it's not that simple because a bunch of grown women act like hypersensitive children".

You know why it's different? Because if I were asked to go to three different showers, buy a tux and go to a destintion bachelor party I, and every single one of the groom's friends, would tell the groom to go fuck himself.

A hundred times this, Katie Elizabeth. Thanks. You saved me a half-hour typing essentially the same thing. I can't believe this "article" actually says she had a freaking STROKE (which had just magically gone away by the time she reached the ER, resulting in negative "stroke tests".) It was absolutely a TIA. Anyone

"A man presenting with the same symptoms would have been taken at his word and admitted. but a women is ignored."

I feel like a lot of you are not medical. Let me explain the facts here, before we start de-valuing our cause by making ridiculous accusations.

They're in a rarefied club with each other, those people who've survived being shot and went on to throw out first pitches.

I finally quit trying to read it. It was trying way too hard to be cute and hilarious.

I haven't commented here in a couple years, but this thread is bringing me to tears and I had to share something about my dad.

What the. Are you kidding me?! 45 pages of lower-case H's!

Yes, I second this. Unless there are serious unresolved abuse or neglect issues going on, life is too short to fall out with family members. Learned this the hard way a few times.

I normally never post personal pics on the interwebz, but I have the coolest Dad ever and he was at his absolute Dadliest on my wedding day:
