No shit you can use 12 GB no problem, that is truly the definition of overkill.
I've got 12, my used RAM never went over 6 GB for standard gaming. Witcher 2 got close but still didn't go past it. My rig is tri channel back when Intel chips used those RAM in 2009 I recall.
I should rephrase, everything over 6 GB for the average gamer is overkill.
Try fumbling until you find a good server. Some of them still have a great community. It'll take some time, but I guarantee the community is still there ;)
Anything above 6 GB RAM is overkill. That video card is very expensive.
