In fact, what they actually do is fight to close down women's shelters——-because while these MRAs say women lie about DV, women should be expected to do all the work for men. And they harass and threaten women in real life, because women has it coming, you know. And they don't really care if they accurately accuse the

Emily Yoffe and James Taranto may be shilling MRA beliefs, but I'm guessing they wouldn't describe themselves as MRA advocates. And ultimately that's why I can't take MRA people seriously—they exist to perpetuate sexist beliefs, not to dismantle them. They are not fighting for a world where the majority of dudes

This is really simple. If you are a member of the dominant social group it is creepy for you to organize AS a member of the dominant social group.

I think I'll pass on having to get groped by some creepy old billionaire

I would do it for, like, $75 and a tray of mozzarella sticks.

Y'all need to stop pretending that if some richie rich offered you 500K to fly you to Austria and come to a high-falutin' party with him, you'd wouldn't go in a goddamn heartbeat. You're not going to this party because you're super morally superior to a Kardashian, you're not going because nobody asked you.

Exactly, what the fuck? Being an escort doesn't mean you relinquish your rights to basic human decency. Seriously?

Wow, really?

So you think actual escorts who get paid for sex DESERVE to be assaulted and disrespected then, huh?

Wow, the slut shaming and people being hell bent on ignoring the topic of racist hated is really showing under this post.

I sincerely doubt that would be your reaction if they'd pulled that crap on Harry Belafonte, Lugner's 1992 escort.

I mean, obviously she was hired to be his escort for the night. But I don't think that makes it acceptable that someone put on blackface and harassed her.

You know this isn't a sex/gender thing, right? Like, my libido is higher than my husband's; he's the one hung up on monogamy.

No, I'm not arguing over semantics. I'm pushing back against the notion that we should or even can determine for a woman how to make a private decision, what ethical weight that decision should carry, and how she should react emotionally to it.

Well I’m flattered!

This comment makes very little sense. There is a huge amount of ground between treating abortion like a day at the spa and having it be a "big fucking deal." What a shocker that decisions and attitudes about various things, including abortion, occupy places on the spectrum other than the extremes. I also don't know

Yeah, that woman that thinks an abortion is just like a day at the spa? She's about as real as the woman who makes a false rape accusation for funsies/money/fame.

The opposite of abortion being a big fucking deal is not "a choice...made all willy-nilly." I have known quite a few women who had an abortion. For none of them was it a big fucking deal. In fact I would say it was an easy decision. They knew they were not ready to be parents. They were not in a long-term

Several reasons. One is that it serves largely to legally discriminate against WoC, who will be the ones suspected of having sex-selective abortions and the ones who have to prove that they're one of the "good" WoC who are getting an "ok" abortion; this also reinforces a lot of shitty tropes about WoC being sexually

Because I think it's problematic to interrogate women about their motivations for an elective medical procedure. If it's legal until viability, it's legal until viability, for any reason.

largely because how can you prove the abortion is sex-selective as opposed to just incidental? How do you know whether I want an abortion because it's a girl, or because I can't financially or emotionally handle the burden? Would you just assume maybe because the person is Asian? See how this is dangerous?

I have not been drowned. Thanks for that though.
