It wasn't dropped - the subscription isn't required anymore. Apple didn't figure into the equation other than delaying the iOS app for a year.

I feel like the main draw of Readability was left out - if you have a subscription, it sends 70% of the fee to the content providers (divided up equally). Since these services strip the ads, it's heartening to see people, you know, paid for their work.

They don't have a small-claims clause because arbitration is more favorable to them. Litigants have to go to their house and it's (essentially) a rigged game.

"Publishers are utterly unimportant in this day and age, this has been proven time and time again."

First-sale doctrine has been on the books in the US since 1908. Publishers know this. Gamefly exists, and Goozex, and so on and on.

"The current defenses against piracy all end up making purchasing more difficult. To sell more games, surely you should be making it easier to purchase. This is the issue."

Well, the ESA doesn't represent gamers, they represent the game producers. When the interests of the two parties conflict, it's only reasonable to expect that they're going to side with the people who pay their bills.

"If you want to invest two years in something that will help you, you would do better to learn how to hack than get an MBA."

I still don't have Mango, but the changes make me hopeful. I typically use an iPhone, but at this point it feels that the only thing that it has going for it is its broad support - you can't spit without finding an iPhone-compatible docking station, app developers come to iOS first and other platforms if they're good

A better title may be "Preview what people will be complaining about!"

This is probably advice that should be taken at one's own peril. How much your GPA means is a function of your degree, the job you're applying to, the school you came from, and so forth. Any job that's going to be in the top quartile of pay will probably demand a high GPA out of college, but the more experience you

...cue angry commenters about how Android phones taste better when you take away the reality distortion field.

I think you may have misunderstood the quote. The impression I get is that Apple puts hardware in to meet a certain experience need where the Android tablet makers (and RIM) build the hardware to look good against the iPad and other Android tablets in side-by-side hardware comparisons. In situations like this where

@nate28: No - people donate to the charities that they see fit to support. And, when it comes down to it, animal charities get far less funding from governments and corporations.

This is just dumb. Everyone thinks they're the shining example to driving and anyone who inconveniences them slightly on the road is terrible, or more often, of questionable intelligence.

@sub150: I'm tired of hearing about market cap as though it's the end-all, be-all, too... by almost any other metric (including profit margins) Microsoft is in a better position than Apple is. The fact that Apple has a larger market cap doesn't say much other than the market's valuation of AAPL or MSFT (or both) is

@Scott: Does anyone other than Apple really use DisplayPort? I'm pretty sure HDMI won that battle without Apple.

Places is opt-in. You need to tell it where you are, and if someone else "tags" you somewhere for the first time, you have to say it's okay for other people to do that. I'm not sure how they could implement this feature in a way that would satisfy this site.

@mgv: Welcome to Lifehacker! Bathrooms are around the corner, to the left.

Considering there was an attack at Georgia Tech a few months ago with a samurai sword, the response doesn't seem out of line. College campuses are sensitive to possible attacks, and with (some) good reason.
