I so hope that's true. I was one of those 51% of kids in 1995 who had had sex, and I absolutely, without any doubt, was pressured into it by both my boyfriend and my friends, who made it very clear that being a virgin was the stupidest, dorkiest, most unacceptable thing in the world. I hated it, I felt incredibly

Eek! No wonder my kids like my coq au vin so much—apparently, they're getting hammered off of it!

My husband, who has been retired from the Navy for three years and now works as a low-level state bureaucrat, still has an active security clearance. They last five to ten years, and they don't get automatically shut off when you leave your job (that's how you can get another job that requires one later). Granted, I'm

I always do that when we're out someplace really big and crowded; my kids just think I can't help taking pictures of them because that's what moms do.

I actually know someone who was accused of trying to kidnap her own (newly adopted and different raced) child from a store when the kid had a temper tantrum and started screaming about wanting to go back to her "real" family. She actually ended up showing the store manager her phone photos of them together.

Rachel Maddow's comment a few days ago was priceless: "Although the Florida state law says that Tampa cannot stop people from carrying guns into the actual convention, the Secret Service does not give a shit about stupid Tampa laws, and they will take your gun away from you, you dumbass" (paraphrased).

Glass blowing is totally an apprenticeship thing! I used to go by a glass blowing shop all the time, and there was a woman who worked there who made things that were not animals, but were practice for animals, like little blobs that sort of looked like fish or whales' tails. Her table had a little card that said

Why is this entire thing written as though it's only targeting women addicts, when it clearly says right at the top that this awful program also pays for vasectomies? Let's acknowledge that this hideous bullshit is being pushed on both men and women, and be even more pissed!

A big high five to your friends! I'm so glad so many people have worked against this bullshit amendment. I live in eastern NC, in a very small town that is extremely conservative, but happily, there are several signs up around town urging people to vote against it.

Me too! I was so excited to get to vote for Barack Obama again! You are now my official Internet best friend for today. :)

Yes. Yes, you do. Especially after pregnancy, should you choose to reproduce.

I feel like I've been saying this a lot on here the past few days, but North Carolina Jezzies, early voting is open now! Primary Day is May 8th, next Tuesday! Please go vote against Amendment 1 right this freaking minute! I did it yesterday, and it felt so good! ;) Sadly, Peter Brunstetter does not appear to be up for

Oops, sorry—I was so disturbed by the story that I totally skipped over the parenthetical. My bad. And I'm still pretty horrified.

Don't be silly! Where would the money come from? After all, we can't stop giving billions of dollars in tax rebates to giant oil companies! That would just be ridiculous.

And what do the working parents do? Does your area have lots of child care available just one day a week? Do parents who can't afford it get some kind of subsidy, seeing as their kids are meant to be being watched by a free public school during that day? Or are they just shit out of luck?

I hope your girlfriend's grandmother called the principal, the police, social services, and all three children's families, because that shit is FUCKED UP.
