45k? That's insane! And awesome. Part of my view of prices might come from growing up in FL where real estate is intense, though, since all the retirees want to buy houses here.

Interesting. Maybe urban/suburban vs rural, then. My high school was pretty much at the border between suburban and rural, to the point where we had a barn with livestock and such that the agriculture students learned in, but I was always in the suburban part with the golf courses and surrounded by people much richer

Hmm. I lived in a condo as a kid until we got a house when I was maybe 10 and we always called it a condo and never a house (though I think it was maybe technically an apartment since we were renting, but whatever. It was in a fancy golf course area so I guess they wanted a fancier sounding name for them). I've spent

Disney World was an at least once a year thing for me growing up, but that's just because I was a FL resident and it's free on your birthday. I lived close enough that no hotel was required. So Disney World vacations were actually cheaper than going to any state park or national monument that I know of. It gets

Ok. I've just never heard it used that way before. Everyone I know calls an apartment an apartment and a house a house. Maybe it's a regional thing?

I saw it afterwards and responded it was very reasonable in that case. But saying "has a house" has a different implication than what she meant, and is something most early 20's people won't have, unlike not living with parents. I'm also not a dude.

Haha! Thanks!

I've been having trouble prioritizing things all night. Finished the last problems on the problem set due Monday. Still was hoping to wash the dishes, make the powerpoint for the mini-lecture before the experiment I'm teaching tomorrow (and for the next two weeks), and get started on tackling the (really intimidating)

Awesome. We've lived together for 2.5 years now (will be 3 by the time the wedding rolls around), so I think we're pretty much ready for marriage. Not so much for kids...hooray for contraception!

Huh. My grandmother had my mom when she was 39, and my mom was her only child. My mom had me at 30, and I'm her oldest child. I'm 23 and getting married this year, but I see myself as way too young to even consider having a child.

atouchofyou's suggestion is good. I just wanted to add that if you're like me and can't sew, Maidenform sells a low back bra converter for $8.

When I was making 12,000 a year, there is no way that I spent anything over $1000 per year in clothes. Even in 2012 when I made 23,000, I doubt I spent over $1000 on clothes, and that's including my *wedding dress* in that budget.

My guinea pig was named Ginny because my parents let me and my brother name her and we were kids at the time and also very into Harry Potter. Our gerbils we had before Ginny were named Harry and Brownie.

I've never once gotten anything back. I'm not sure whether I owe $700 or $200 this year because it depends on if my parents counted my tuition expenses from spring 2012 on 2011 taxes or not (you can do it either way from what I learned talking to a CPA, you just can't count it twice!) I'm going home for a weekend next

You have until some time in April, right? I'd give it some time to process all the pros and cons, then give the coin flip a try between maybe your top two. Another thing I did was to compare schools as I went. I was lucky (or unlucky?) in that I felt that one visit showed that the school was just an awful fit for me

Congrats! I got into 9 out of the 10 programs I applied to (also in sciences). In the end, although there were several schools that were at the top, and all offered decent enough stipends (typical in sciences) my heart was drawing me to one place in particular. It just seemed like a place where I would be most likely

Thanks! Getting married this summer, and my fiance also has no college debt, a decent assistant manager job, and just bought a car, so I'd say your criteria are good in the long run! But he didn't have any of those things when we met since we were both freshman then.

It seems very reasonable when you put it that way instead of "has a house". I don't even have college debt and I probably won't consider buying a home until my 30s just because I don't know where in the world the job market will take me post-PhD. But my car is paid off and I have no college debt or credit card debt

Really? I'm responsible, have no debt from my college education through scholarships and work, and am obtaining a graduate education, also with no debt, have a car fully paid off, and I doubt I'll be able to even consider buying a house until I'm maybe 30 at the earliest. Apartments are just far cheaper overall when

Yeah, I have to discipline myself to only buy things on clearance and only if I can envision a specific time that I would wear it. I love the search filters on pinupgirlclothing, I haven't seen that site before!
