If true, it really makes me wonder how much internal analysis was done on this decision. Lotta dumb things happen because the big boss man thinks he knows best every time. (But in JJ’s defense, Bungie did have a pretty good track record... everyone gets it wrong once in a while.)

There are many other engines that do it far better (including in-engine editing). There was clearly inadequate tools and engine investment, which as the story notes, came back to bite them when they had to do a lot of ad-hoc rework.

Great story. I find it hilarious that they found the original story “too linear and campy” and then turned around to make something that was horrible and still pretty damned linear. I don’t even understand how showing all the planets up front was such a problem - it would have broken up the monotony of doing one

Given how obnoxious the kill-everyone paradigm is, I’ve got no sympathy for Bungie.

Agents of SHIELD tanked in the beginning because the show was boring, somewhat cliched, and had no obvious plot payoff coming. Once they kicked it into high gear in the middle of the first season, that was when things got good... the movie references were nice, but not really what saved the show.

Sir, I am you, and I LOVE Destiny 2.0. Just started it last week, and they fixed all the stupid stuff I hated with Destiny 1.0. I started off going “why would I ever buy TTK, I didn’t even play HoW or TDB that I PAID FOR”, but I’m becoming a believer again. It’s a nice feeling.

They need to remake 1-3 using the MGS V engine.

First thing I thought, too. Let me congratulate Valve for doing the only thing possible to make this issue get stupider... well-played, Gaben.

This was my big problem with PL, too. I’m decked out in insane gear, and these half-naked pseudo-humans are jacked up like a super-duper-mutant. It really did a lot to hurt the experience for me.

The New Horizons mission cost $700m. That’s a teensy bit more than $800k.

“and Nintendo NX”

You’re assuming the sprites were originally drawn at PS2 resolution. More likely, the original assets were much higher resolution. As long as they’ve got the original assets, they should be able to be shown at higher resolution just fine.

Settlers of Catan teaches you to be a diplomatic negotiator? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND?

I’m also doing a minimal carb diet, and I am losing a ton of weight fast. I’m kicking myself for not having discovered this years ago.

You’re not giving yourself enough credit. Jews comprise even less of the population, and we’ve apparently taken over Hollywood, the banks, and the government!

““It’s a bummer but 60fps had to take precedence,” said O’Connor. “It’s not just aesthetics- the entire simulation is built on that framerate.””

It’s a screenshot of Game Dev Story (by Kairosoft).

As a software project manager, I’ve never understood anyone who thinks sustained crunch time is anything besides a giant failure. The schedule was completely wrong, and now you’re making it up by forcing your extremely valuable employees to burn themselves out, usually at zero benefit to them. The industry should be

Shotgun slugs would have been far more visually exciting. Those are what, like .72 caliber?

As someone who has a lot of flight time out of all three DC area airports, Dulles is by far my least favorite. The terminal setup is just friggin’ awful compared to BWI or National. It’s also fugly inside, and the vendor setup leaves a lot to be desired.
