Hell, the Koch bros. spent over 1 million dollars on the Denver, CO, school board election a few years ago; they managed to get at least a couple of puppets onto it. They regard it as building a farm team.

These guys have so much money to throw at these little elections and the sad thing is, this is where they have the most effect and let them have total control. What's more important? The presidency or a majority of governorships, the house, the senate, state senates, state reps, and county boards? The dems have

The Koch brothers poured a ton of money into the Wake County School Board elections a few years back. They were interested in increasing segregation and spending on charter schools, ‘cause you know, they think Black kids and White kids in Raleigh, North Carolina should be subject to the whims of billionairesfrom

yeah—and unfortunately this is where the dems need to start spending $$ too. These elections groom the political “talent” (term used loosely) that work their way up the ranks in state government and eventually run for congress, governorships, etc. This is why voting in your local elections really fucking matters!

At first I thought this was about a teacher’s strike in a town/County named ‘Zephyr.’

Zephyr Teachout has the best name that has ever existed. It took me a while and some research, back when I first heard of her, to believe it was her actual, real name.

Zephyr’s ideas are a breath of fresh air. These Republicans are just blowing into the wind. Hopefully a decisive loss will teach them to get out; I heard the election is going to be a breeze.

Hey fellow inorganic chemist!

They are almost cartoonish in their villainy. Enough money to give all of their employees 15 an hour with full health insurance coverage and STILL be billionaires. But they won’t because they are scum and they hate people. They love their little castle in the sky.

This is what I don’t get. Do people who oppose raising minimum wage not realize that by letting companies like Wal-Mart pay unliveable wages, they are agreeing to make up the difference with their taxes? Or do they want to simultaneously keep the minimum wage unliveable and get rid of welfare benefits/the ACA, and

Good luck! There’s this weird idea that a union must make everything better for everyone in every situation always or else it’s a failed enterprise. Which is absurd. They attempt to protect workers and force policies in a worker-oriented direction. Those are unequivocally good enterprises even when they fail.

I figured as such, but this is good to hear! I’m a grad student worker at Columbia, and I’m really hoping those of us in support of unionizing will be able to make sure the administration won’t confuse the other student employees who aren’t as aware about what unionizing means into voting against it.

Solidarity forever,

Oh let this be the first of many blows to the exploitative and unsustainable clusterfuck that higher education has become.

If only they donated that much to employee’s paychecks.

creating a hostile work environment by threatening to criticize staff members if they quit.

The mental disconnect is unreal. When fucking Ted Cruz and his cronies shut down the government a few years ago, my cousin (who lives in his district and loooooves him) ranted on FB about how this was all very necessary to stop Obamacare, which would be the DEATH of us all. Four days later, public opinion has firmly

Be careful people, of Philadelphia!

Philly has tow trucks, DC has meter maids and red light cameras.

Meter maids won’t read signs for parking, or check the hours posted. They will just write you a ticket. Once that happens and it’s in the District system, good luck fighting it, as the system is fully electronic and will consistently miss sending

How is that kind of sign even remotely a legal basis to tow someone from a street parking space? That’s clearly a private sign and shouldn’t have any bearing on public streets.
