Dear fucking GOD. The '70s were a terrifying time to be a child. I was an '80s child, and things were thankfully a lot more peppy. I have a good friend here who has a lifelong fascination-with-slash-terror-of nuclear war, cemented in his head by the completely traumatic airing of "Threads'' in his youth.

Came to say the same thing. I am so appalled at what this family went through, and filled with absolute admiration for their willingness to keep this in the public eye and fight for justice for themselves and others, during an unimaginably painful time.

Heavy is the head that eats the Crayons.

I'd do it if I has the skills. And you may have already seen it, but as general awareness, the Romanian film 4 months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days is basically a cinematic rundown of this entire scenario.

I can work with the hijab-stunting, as it does seem her heart is in the right place, and hey, if she actually lives amongst people UNABLE TO MAKE EYE CONTACT WITH A MUSLIM WOMAN, maybe some white-washed awareness-raising isn't a terrible idea.

Lots of ugly crying, silent rocking of selves, and fruitless screaming.

Another idea - let's make it a reality show.

CIRCUMFERENCE - noun - the distance around something. So in this instance, girth.

Was scrolling down looking for it in case I needed to pipe up. Good work, Team Inner-12-Year-Olds.

I agree with ALL YOUR POINTS. This was basically a summary of my entire thought process. But to reiterate:

The burning tire method ('necklacing') is also unbelievably brutal. Shooting her in the head or even slitting her throat (hard to type, but yes), would have been much more efficient and cleaner. This would have been a very public spectacle, and likely taken her some time to die.

I feel like her hair has never recovered from the head-shaving incident, and it throws her look off. At first it was like, okay, she felt she had to get extensions, but it's never looked natural since when by rights it should be back to normal at this point. Is this bad-weave-foolery?

Why did you stop covering Us Weekly when it is the NYT of the tabs? I miss it. :(

Whoa, okay. I (a human woman) have my own failed romantic gesture stories. Bypassing the one wherein I cooked My First Romantic Dinner for the guy I'd been seeing for a YEAR, only to get dumped the same night, I too fell for the high school Valentine's Day candygram scheme (although, in our case, you could send

Beyonce is from Houston. The fourth-largest city in the United States. What is this ''small town'' bullshit Life & Style???

This is a comment I made further upthread, but it pertains to your post, so hopefully forgive me the double-post:

INTERESTING. I am actually a believer in mentoring - within my firm, it is required, and I typically spend 30 minutes with my mentor (who is outside of my own Practice) every 4-6 weeks. I believe that mentors have no more than three mentees at a time, so it's very manageable. And happily, the managers of the mentor

I had a male boss tell me, in 2008, that the housing bubble was due to women trying to work outside of the home. Seriously. The financial crisis was because WOMEN had flooded the job market.

At my last firm, the CEO's assistant was away, and he walked all the way to my office to drop a pile of papers on my desk and ask me to fax them. He walked past one man at my same level and two who reported to me to ask me to do this (I was the only woman in the office at the time, clearly). I was in operations, not
