Wait a moment: he’s implying that she’s too “Hollywood” (because Hollywood movies are incapable of being serious you arrogant prick?) but he wanted his movie to star two of the Avengers?
I saw that movie in theaters, and it was pretty good, but Kiera was easily the best thing about it. Ruffalo’s awesome too, they had a really great platonic sort of chemistry that’s the main thing that makes the movie work. Levine was fine, but easily the worst actor there (unsurprising since he’s not an actor).…
So, it’s easy to laugh when guys complain about sexism, particularly when they’re complaining about physical objectification because, no offense, ALL women have to deal with that shit starting at about the age of 12, and would be fucking delighted to only have to deal with being judged only if we’re movie stars whose…
Am I the only one who wasn’t really happy with Dany at the end? Cool speech and all, but you can’t just tell every single Dothraki to cross the sea and start killing people.
Those are both perfectly valid reasons to not want to see a movie, but they also have applied to (conservative estimate) 3-5 new movies per year in the last decade. And 98% of those movies did not get this kind of backlash, and I’m fairly sure 100% of the critiques about them didn’t complain about SJW’s.
Woman-nipples are inherently less ok than man-nipples, and apparently the fact that they’re meant to look feminine is less important than the fact that they’re attached to a cis man.
200/1 Rickon and Osha spent some time with cannibals and Rickon eats Ramsay alive.
Actually, originally social justice warrior was a positive term. Hell, I’m still baffled that we’ve managed to make “warrior for social justice” something that we criticize people for.
Serious question: do you consider all performance art to be objectification? Because all performance art involves a person being symbolic of something else. Personally, since she performers are always willing participants (meaning they have agency), usually passionate about what they choose to symbolize, and often the…
Why would you think that?
True, but you can’t accuse someone of objectifying women when their intention and goal is to treat women as people deserving of respect. Not everything that relates to women’s bodies and misses the point is objectification.
While there’s no clear litmus test for what is or isn’t objectification, I wouldn’t say that’s what this is (at least, not necessarily). The artist’s intention is clearly that they be considered as whole people worthy of respect (subjects, not objects).
“You should hang upside down after sex.”
“Something came over me, I think the Lord came to me, and he just said get in the truck and leave,”
“I feel” is, in my opinion, a quick way of saying “I know/believe ___ but recognize that I don’t have proof so I’m saving everyone’s time by acknowledging that.” It may not be appropriate in every situation (for example, formal debates), but the vast majority of all statements people have ever and will ever make are…
Dear Marvel,
On the one hand, yes it is probably racist that black actors and actresses are seeing so many roles where their character is something other than a black person.
Awesome examination of this issue.
Maybe I’m just a huge nerd, but I feel like I’ve seen this dress dozens of times in anime/manga, but have never seen it in real life because it couldn’t possibly look good. I mean really, the model is gorgeous, and it doesn’t even look good on her.
