the thing is usb is limiting (ie to only usb devices) with thunderbolt you can do much more as because its basically just an external pci express port you can develop adaptors and hubs (ie usb 3.0, expresscard, firewire and other things) it even allows you to hook an external graphics card up to your computer too :D

unfortunately the take off of 1080p in consumer televisions has made it much more profitable for display manufacturers to fob that resolution off on everyone else, plus theyre cheaper to manufacture from what i recall, than a 16:10 screen

if you look carefully you'll see that the power connectors are staggered in height yes it does require at least 2x 6pin cables maybe 1x6 and 1x8

it really only affects if your running the cpu flat out for many hours, ive heard reports of people running 5+ hour renders on very little battery life while plugged in, having their computer die. [forums.whirlpool.net.au]

unfortunately this is the way with a lot of apple devices my 15" macbook pro's 85w charger isn't enough to power it when under a lot of load, it dips into the battery to make up the slack
