Yeah, this is why I prefer playing older games digitally on my PC. The games aren’t married to a particular kind of hardware, I can make backups, save states are available, those games with dead batteries aren’t an issue, and I save a ton on room space.

The real challenge comes when playing online. The solo campaign is just for leveling up your characters, learning the mechanics, and story (the latter of which have been fairly forgettable in past Pokémon installments).

They tried with Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness, but it failed hard in both Japan and North America. 

Definitely not 1:1 copies, but the snippets they played do sound very close. Inspiration has to come from somewhere, so it does not surprise me. Check out similarities in other games, like Stage 2 from Double Dragon 2 vs Easy Lover by Phil Collins, or Elec Man’s Stage from Mega Man vs Faithfully by Journey.

That, my friend, is a legal quandary. We own the license to play the software, but ultimately Nintendo (or any company) has the final say regarding the information in that software. This is why companies like Rockstar can legally remove songs from GTA even if you own the disk.
