I'm sceptical of a graph that tells me that all crashes were fatal prior to about 1990 and that since 2004 there are more fatal crashes than there are total crashes.

@wolfy-E30 325is in t-minus 6 months!: Mechanically, the first generation Z4 wasn't all that bad, but the styling had no place on a BMW and gimmicks like the plastic duct used to transfer intake harmonics to the back of the dash were an affront to what was once a justifiably proud automaker. The current Z4 is no

This sounds like another clear case of inflammatory and threatening rhetoric creating a dangerous situation!

@SDSpeed: I saw infinitely more attractive chicks handing out Lite Beer from Miller bottle openers during the Fiesta Bowl in PB bars last night.

@wolfy-E30 325is in t-minus 6 months!: I was taking my then-gf's Mini Cooper to the dealer for service the first time I saw a Z4. I was revolted. There were two of them, both in shades of smog. I went on the BMW website to see what it would look like in a nice Hellrot or Cinnabar Red. It wasn't available in anything

@diskreet: Seeing 'the ghey blade' imitated on other cars really emphasizes what a stupid styling gimmick it is. Does it reflect some sort of function, real or imagined? No? Then go arrange some flowers and die!

@west-coaster: Argh! Yes, 40 years ago is what I meant. Incidentally, 1981 was 30 years ago. The 380SEL was actually a very nice car, in pretty much the same way a new 4 cylinder Camry is.

I like the current Civic, which was anything but conservative when released. 1.25 million of them on US streets has diminished the impact, and this one just looks like a facelift that adopts a couple of today's dumber trends. I HATE, HATE, HATE rooflines that slope for worthless art major fashion while eliminating

@wolfy-E30 325is in t-minus 6 months!: It isn't a coincidence that the car you linked to is 20 years old. A drive past my local BMW dealers will not catch your eye. The only pigments BMW needs now are white and black, which they mix in various percentages with or without mica flake.

The styling is as awful as anything short of a Juke, but the curb weight is nice in this day of diminished expectations. The 3rd door makes it sound like it will be a 2+2 with a useless back seat instead of a less compromised 2 seater like a CRX. In this age of wussified safety requirements, maybe a couple hundred

@86LX5.0: It actually looks better on that Infiniti than it does on the R8.

My mother has a BMW that is NOT painted some variant of the grey spectrum.

Sadly, what this really reveals is that Toyota believes energy will be a luxury good shortly.

The Sonic is a silly fashion victim. Why bother making it a 4-door if you're going to arch the roof on a compact sedan and eliminate what would have been head room for back seat passengers? Why stick NBA hoops and rim protectors on a car that could be efficient? The Malibu grille looks grafted on. A missed

I'd like to have it just to call out any 300SEL 6.3 drivers I catch bragging about how they had the fastest sedans in the world 20 years ago. CHP testing showed these Mopars were capable of speeds in the 140s without their lightbars, and a matchup with a 6.3 wouldn't even look like a race.

@stephdumas: I don't recall that particular model of Colt, although I do remember the Sunbeam built Plymouth Cricket that looked remarkably similar and the later Colts. This wagon one looks like a marriage of Mazdas and Datsuns of the day.

The 14.1 second quarter mile time may sound slow, but the 6.9 second 0-60 time tells the story. Looking at modern cars which get to 60 in the high 6s, one would expect their quarter mile time to be in the 15.3-15.6 second range. The Charger 500 was clearly traction limited at launch and then making up time by working

@'76Mini: Does the elevated bumper height denote that it is a Canadian market Mini?

It looks like someone grafted the nose of a new Scion TC onto an old SLK. The LED lights look like a cynical afterthought. Mercedes really doesn't respect their customers.
