The car is too good looking to be a European anything built in the past decade. It does serve as a barometer of the automotive knowledge of current Ford fans though.

@snapoversteer's a dangerous cliche: I know someone that replaced their second S2000 with a G37 when his wife had a baby. Now he is thinking about trading the G37 on a Fit, because he drove one and it handled so much better.

@Dan122186: Ben probably stuck that on there. Dirty hippy.

@snapoversteer's a dangerous cliche: I'm not sure what the price delta is between an Accord EX-L and an Acura TSX, but there were a few difference back in 2004. At the time, I think the top Accord 4-cylinder was 160 hp v. 200 hp for the TSX. The Acura was smaller and lighter. It looked nice. It had a few more luxury

Gawker is PATHETIC! Who will they stalk next? Some geek who might bring home an Apple prototype? Never mind. I wish them self awareness, and the hell on earth it would entail.

@snapoversteer's a dangerous cliche: My father bought one because he was tired of knowing every BMW mechanic in town's first name. It's been bulletproof, it gets great mileage, and it has a more luxurious interior than an E39 5-series. He lives in Virginia though. Here in San Diego, 300+ hp cars make some sense

@tekamul: Looking at new Wranglers on ebay, they seem to be about $5K off before you start negotiating. The one in the photo is a Wrangler X with a hardtop. He'll do well to get $21K for it.

It is a cute story, but who takes the tax hit for the Jeep? Taxes on prize winnings tend to work out close to 50% of retail, often meaning your better off without winning something you don't need and will have a hard time selling for anything close to retail.

@spiegel1: It could be worse. In California we elect them to congress.

@redman042: It is a dumb technology, but people are dumber than ever. Acceptance of inferior transportation that does more harm to the environment and limits our overall freedom and standard of living is just around the corner. The important question is why does our government want to diminish the quality of our lives?

Tread lightly.

As an involuntary GM shareholder, Nick Dwork had better mean that he wants to sell the guy another Escalade. I'm sick of this government trying to buy popularity with my money.

@Cloud81918: I don't know about DSG replacing automatics. My friend has a 2008 VW GTI DSG. At that time, DSG wasn't ready. The transmission has been marginal since the first time my friend stood on the gas pedal, required maintenance for it costs as much as replacing transmissions does for some cars, and VW has

You're all laughing now, but Obama is about to make energy a luxury good.

The rest of what Dan Neil said on the subject is this:

Any imbecile who buys unique-to-cops Caprices to use as unmarked police cars should be immediately fired, have their pension canceled, and then be stoned to death Iranian style.
