You'd think that with a 50 billion dollar subsidy they'd be able to give the damned things away.

I hope Toyota gets complete control and gains access to the $465 million that Tesla stole from taxpayers to compensate Toyota for their crucifixion in the name of keeping the UAW around to vote in 2012. That would rock.

This is by no means the first reverse Fauxrarri. In the '50s and '60s, it was common to keep sports racing Ferraris competitive for a couple extra seasons by swapping in an SBC. Then there is the rather famous Norwood GTO.

@BeanBone: Maybe the IIHS should test my mountain bike.

What was xenophobic or subversive about this? They were pretty careful not to say anything negative about foreign producers or products. Trying to appeal to workers' good nature to do their jobs doesn't seem so subversive. Too bad for Pontiac that once someone has adopted the UAW mentality their humanity is a thing of

@vdiddy210 - Professional Blog Commentator: Chances are you still would get bored driving a V8lvo pretty quickly when your other car is an E39 M5. I'd put it on ebay with a high reserve. Volvo fans consider that low mileage, and it is probably worth quite a bit anywhere but California.

It looks like a thousand bucks!

@p3p3: Especially Jewish people.

@pauljones: BMW and Mercedes NA don't give you any regional quotes. They only provide MSRP and sometimes financing information. They refer you to a dealer in your area who may or may not play ball online without you having to visit their lot. I'm saying this having bought 6 cars in the past few years using

@pauljones: The difference is that they don't ask you before they tell you the price. Not such a subtle difference at all.

@ZoraAD: The zipcode thing is only universal for the Detroit 3. There are some German companies that have navigation which approaches the awkwardness of the Detroit companies' websites, but they don't cultivate regional pricing suspicions.

@Nick: There is a 'get local offers' tab on Ford's build and price page. The shipping price for a Focus is the same at either of my homes, San Diego California and Charlottesville Virginia.

@dal20402: I just googled Honda Civic. Then I clicked on the Honda automobiles link. Then from shopping tools I hit build and price. The next question was model choice rather than zipcode. I went through all options and accessories and then it provided me with a summary including shipping charges for the US built

I tried playing the pricing game to see what you get for this absurd price. In the process, Ford's 'build and price' feature locked up after asking me the sort of questions that don't engender faith that everyone gets a fair shake. Why do different zipcodes have different pricing policies? I don't have to deal with

@laxmax613: Absolutely. I also appreciate being able to remotely lock and unlock my car. The convenience of no fail safes for idiots without the possibility of some helpful person locking your keys in your car.

Looks like a rebadged BMW X5. Yuck.

@buzz killington — IP Jalopttorney: The roads here in San Diego are horrible. I'm not sure there is such a thing as too soft and underdamped a suspension for constantly driving over elevation changes that test cars' ground clearance, as long as it doesn't bottom out violently. The Corolla is much more composed than

@buzz killington — IP Jalopttorney: Mazda 3s drive better, no doubt. I bought one of the previous generation ones and still drive it from time to time. They don't get very impressive mileage though, at least certainly not in the sense of the Corolla I'm driving today. 350 city miles on 10.5 gallons of gas. That is a

The other day there was a d-bag in a Lincoln Navigator double parked half a car length from an intersection talking to a girl that looked like a cross dressing tranny whore. Traffic was stopping in all directions as people tried to manuever around these wastes of space. When I came back from getting lunch, they were

@Alfisted: I like pneumatic tires. Judging by Tyson's example, doing away with pneumatic tires has done nothing for the quality of BMW's drivers. My idea does away with 'infotainment systems,' power features, driving aides, and ornamental lighting. Just think how much weight would be pared from our cars without the
