I always thought Bobcat was a good name for a small Mercury too, even if the car wasn't exactly wonderful.
@stephdumas: Thanks for posting that link. Interesting article.
@Novaload: The reason sales volumes fell off is because it became more economical to manufacture Toyotas and Hondas in the U.S. Sales by Japanese brand have generally only gone up, but the cars are not usually made in Japan. For example, the Acura TSX and Honda Fit are 'Japanese cars.' The Honda Civic, Accord, Acura…
@ssrock64: Irony would be if the car overheats and cracks its head because of lack of airflow through the badge blocked grill.
@Wunno Sev: True. On the other hand, E30s could serve as primary cars for 3 times as long as the E36 and E46. Also, when they eventually need replacement lower control arms and brake parts, the parts cost a fraction of what they do for the later cars that go through them so much more quickly.
@bdon: $23,000 was a bargain. These were over $30K the moment they came to the US, which was during 1987 IIRC. When I was BMW shopping in early 1988 the window sticker on the M3 was about $34K. We didn't buy one partially because there was a window decal warning that the car wasn't intended for use in normal traffic…
It won't be too long before an E30 M3 costs more than an equivalent mileage E92 M3. It isn't just about nostalgia either. This is still too much for any car with 200K miles though.
Looks like something fell on it. The design couldn't be any worse if it were the work of someone who'd never seen another car. Or seen another human being. The kind of quality thought that went into this car is what created the Ralph's grocery store in my neighborhood. It sits on top of a parking garage. There are…
@British_Looks_British_Reliabil...: I hope you keep in mind that the reason we're all aware of how these people use their time and money is because they suck balls at running the companies that they pay themselves so much to destroy. If they weren't coming to congress with their hat out for a handout, they could ride…
@BlandonNimrat: About 10 years ago, I was visiting my parents and my father and I went hiking. He was driving to the mountain on a great country road at about 110 mph when a cop went the other way. My father asked me what he should do, like maybe I'd tell him how I escaped from pursuits in my youth. Instead his…
@zeeboid: They took $465 million dollars to subsidize building 900 toys for rich jerkoffs at a loss. They're already flipping us off.
@British_Looks_British_Reliabil...: What about the part where the company he runs loses more than 30 million dollars a year? Seems to me that we'd be better off if he did absolutely nothing.
@Baby beater Benz: We'd driven it up to Williamstown, MA to visit family and then picked up my grandmother in NYC on the way back. We weren't going to make an 80 year old lady sit in the back, so we took turns either driving or being folded into a pretzel. The good part is that my father was in enough of a hurry to…
@Baby beater Benz: My father and I took turns riding in the back seat of a 924S around 1988 from NYC to Charlottesville, Virginia. We're each over 6 feet tall too. Good times.
@zeeboid: Each of those things cost us tax payers half a million dollars. Do you think we want them being parked in Washington DC?
I wonder how many people even realize that this is the 4th Honda Odyssey. Generations two and three were pretty similar. But lets get real. Who wants a minivan to say 'Look At Me!!!'? Remember the Dustbusters from GM? Or the Nissan Catfish? Or the Toyota Orcas? I envy you if you don't. The only mistake Honda ever made…
@Straight6er: Bought a new E30 in 1988. Bought a new E36 in 1994. Retired the E30 in 2007 with 155,000 miles and sold it to the first person who looked at it for $3,200. Retired the E36 with 89,000 miles in 2004. It is still sitting in the driveway. Stay away from the coupes. The 'clever' pop-open window feature that…
I kept looking for the punchline. Crack pipe.
I'd rather have the 1967 Chevelle, but unfortunately the market already knows it is more desirable. $950,000 is more than I have to spend the week before Valentine's Day.
