The Borderlands DLC's were a great example of how to do it properly.
technology is inherently iterative. it has to build on itself in order to improve. patent cases like this are prime examples of how f'ed up patent law is and how damaging it can be to competition in the free market.
that's doesn't justify this sort of retarded abuse of patent law. the consumers are the ones who suffer when companies pull sh*t like this.

I expected the creators of doom and quake to come up with something original and engaging. To me, the game was a mish mashed, watered-down derivative of borderlands,half life and fallout, coupled with a terrible racing/driving dynamic, boring weapons, and an awful, awful, awful ending (worse than ME3, IMO).
it's still an awfully disappointing game.

You're right, people do enjoy those knives. And most of those people wouldn't know a sharp knife if it cut their fingers off. Cutco knives are aimed at taking advantage of people who don't know all that much about cooking or proper kitchen equipment.

Did anyone else think that the folks at Bioware played Deus Ex: HR recently? The ending was pretty much the same thing: The existential "choose your own adventure" ending is a cheap way out, especially when it doesn't align with the progression of the story.
