I doubt you do; most people don't (which is why I never mentioned it). If it's all streaming from one computer, you don't have to count that computer in as using bandwidth (because the file doesn't have to stream over the network from itself to itself).

Are you looking for the calendar to sync in real time? Real-time (or near real-time) is convenient in that if you loose/damage/break your phone inbetween manual tethered syncing, any changes are lost. If you use the google services, the changes are synced every X amount of Y automagically.

Another piece of advice; if you're not sure about a lens, rent it for a weekend before you blindly purchase one. This way you can get a feel for it before plunking down big money.
