No you are wrong. Two things improved worker's wages and working conditions over the course of the last century trade unions and government regulation. Now that we are deregulating and trade union power has significantly diminished these advances have stagnated.

That was happening long before the last minimum wage increase and it will continue as long as employers feel they will make a profit off of it. Nevertheless the last increase did not result in increased unemployment or inflation so your whole argument is moot.

Just use your monocle to look at it.

This is true but really why should a sporting event of all things depend upon slave labor.

Exactly if a worker is not free then it's slavery

This is terrible. I really think i'm finished with FIFA forever after this shit. I know that statement is pretty earnest for Deadspin. Its just that eight years from now I just can't stomach the idea that my favorite sport depended on the death of so many workers.

Really are we comparing Costco sourcing with the GAP. Would you care to talk about The GAP sourcing from factories in Bangladesh where workers died by the hundreds in preventable factory fires? Most of what people buy at Costco is groceries most of that is sourced from the US. Of course that brings up the labor issues

Honestly the idea that the GAP is doing this makes me do a spit take myself. I guess they figured out that their retail associates couldn't afford to buy their clothes.

Now if they would stop sourcing so much of their clothing from sweatshops I might respect them. This is ironic because I remember that GAP was one of the major companies that was sourcing from the Marinas Islands so that they could pay lower than minimum wage while still claiming the garment was made in the US.

One thing I have always been fascinated by when looking at Russian history is how little it really changes.

I guarantee Joe would be quick to file a grievance if he had a problem. I know the type. "I don't wanna join a union but I have to" but as soon as the shit hit the fan its "Why isn't the union helping me?"

Plus if Joe doesn't want to contribute to the political fund he doesn't have to.

Joe just signed a union card so he knows that when you sign a dues check-off there is a separate place to opt-in if you want to contribute to the political fund.

The reason why its a good job is because of the union.

Oh my god. He is even stupider than I thought.

If you organize them so they can demand higher wages and better treatment then the effect of driving down wages for other workers is diminished. Of course you don't really care about that probably. Some unions do take a harder line like you on immigration actually I disagree with it because I know that employers are

No dumbass but if Unions go under then the child labor laws are likely to be weakened because part of the political pressure to keep them in place will be gone. I'm sure they will have no trouble hiring a 14 year old then, but its likely there won't be a pension.

I don't know its hard to tell with all the other BS that you are spewing.

You know what organization is fighting against exploiting guest workers at the expense of other workers. Unions.

You must mean 1916. And a major force getting those laws passed was union activism. Of course the Supreme Court struck down that law 2 years later and they had to pass the law again in 1938 as a part of the Fair Labor Standards Act
