This. This walkway was designed just fine by the engineer, but in construction it was assembled differently because it would be a pain with the original design, and someone thought they knew better. There was nothing wrong with the engineering on this, the construction was where it got screwed up.

That’s because the construction people changed the design and built it incorrectly. IIRC they didn’t want to risk screwing up the threads on a long threaded rod, so they used two much shorter ones.
