I don't believe it was ever said what nationality either she or Emilio were. Having looked at both a "The River" Wiki, Wikipedia and the shows official site, its not even remotely implied what nationality either character is.

I said back at the start of the season that I'd be okay with it being 1 season, and to have more 1 season shows, if the ideas were fresh and interesting enough to carry the show and not feel like we're missing out too much by not having more.
