I’ve always been disappointed that dictionary editors seem to have confused the use of “literally” in hyperbole with “literally” literally meaning “figuratively.” It literally gives me a headache when I fret over it.*

I blame a life of oatmeal (“It’s the right thing to do”) liberally covered with brown sugar.

I wish. If I want to stay off insulin and other meds, that 6g of sugar is roughly a quarter of my daily sugar allowance. It’s a noticeable bump in my blood sugar. That said, there are days when Cuban, Egg, or Kafe Ron, or ca phe sua da are a requirement, and well worth the trade!

Winter’s 95% over here in the Pacific Northwest. The girls are just fine, and will be joined by several others.

Must be proactive karma. My banana just smooshed while I was trying to peel it, and I haven’t watched the trailer yet.

Mine knocked over the candle and tried to burn the place down...

You have relinquished your “c” rights by condensing “Doctor Emilio Lizardo” to “Dr Emilio Lizardo.”

Our second anniversary dinner was fast food. I was working a job that me carry a pager and be on call when there was nobody else in the office. A co-worker had recently quit, and OF COURSE I get paged around 4 p.m. on our anniversary. I ended up working until 10 p.m. Called my wife from work before I left, in case

I wish I could do that. Our corporate policy is 10%. They haven’t come after me for 20% yet, but I’ve had a nastygram from accounts payable.

Glad to live in Oregon where our minimum wage for waitstaff is the same as for everybody else. Moderately attentive and personable? “Round up, double it, and move the dot,” with a two buck minimum if all I’m doing is having coffee at the counter or table.

Also happiest with the California olive oils. Costco’s Kirkland is surprisingly good, as well.

And it grows worse! Even before social media, many people never grew out of using reflected appraisal as *the* milestone for their self-worth. It used to be constrained primarily within a person’s social circles, which you either elected to join or never outgrew.

Often there are cards and standing placards all over a room. On a recent trip, the main room had a standing placard for each of these.

Yes, that one gram of sodium makes a difference. I used to have high blood pressure, and get serious headaches. Tracking my diet, it turned out that the headaches and blood pressure spikes correlated with when I was consuming too much sodium, often around only a gram over US RDA. Correlation is not causation, yeah,

I love BBQ, and have never heard of this. Thank you!

My brain always changes “non-organic” into “inorganic,” and I just spent a few moments wondering what an inorganic carrot would be. A stalactite?

I’ve run across a few flavors of carbonated milk in the Philippines. Along with aloe-flavored yogurt, it seems to be an acquired taste that I haven’t yet acquired. Nor do I expect to.

Coke + Fernet is big in Argentina. Had never had Fernet before that, love it now. But it has to be real (sugar) coke, not the HFCS stuff from the fountains.

The Chicken McDo and McSpaghetti in the Philippines comes with gravy! (And hot dog slices in the McSpaghetti!)

There’s an old-style McDonald’s restaurant in Portland, OR, that’s now used for parties. It’s quite nice to see. The area around the Des Plaines museum has changed a fair bit, and the museum has flooded more than once. I would love for them to keep it and somehow floodproof the building, even if only as a
