Just before the “tasty” comment, Perry make a joke about them having the gun in their safe, Ginny heard the the last part, it is not that weird that he would think that she would have her the gun part as well, giving his inferiority complex.

That scene was so tense for me -- I was convinced the club was going to get raided.
Also I admire the producers of Mason for their verisimilitude but they got that lesbian bar wrong historically. (So does Ryan Murphy... always) But they did borrow from the early 50's. There was a bar owned by a fine singer, Beverly Shaw called Club Laurel that she would sing at. And it was upscale to a degree.…
While I agree this would be an interesting plot twist, the baby making it out of the woods alive seems like a nearly impossible stretch. Sweet seeming adult Shauna is, in reality, the darkest character on the show. There is an empty pit inside of that woman, and I think part of that comes from having killed and eaten…
I just finished catching up on The Bad Batch before watching this and my first thought was hey that is Cid before oh yeah Rhea Perlman :)
I suppose this is probably better(?), but Marlene has presumably put 2 and 2 together to realize that Anna had been bitten before she cut the cord. Everything she says about Ellie and the immunity suggests that. So it seems strange with so many willing Fireflies that you wouldn’t just test that theory on your own and…
I can’t believe that wasn’t mentioned in the body of the review (although glad to see it made it into the bullet points). For me, that moment was the thesis of the episode for Joel. It explains all of his actions that follow.
I liked Marlene’s speech at the end, although it’s a bit ironic since she didn’t ask Ellie either what she wanted (although she’s not wrong that Ellie would probably go through with it). Marlene misjudges Joel until the very end, to her doom.
That was some masterful wordless acting from Bella there. Gotta thank GoT for discovering her.
There have been so many moments in this series between Joel and Ellie, in their long road to build trust, even love. But that scene between them:
I don’t think you pointed out the restraint that Cliff showed. Knowing her powers, he often didn’t answer or respond to some of her questions, he just smoothly transitioned to something else. That was fun to see.
They had nazis in that other 30's LA show with an Aimee Semple McPherson character. I’ve already forgotten the name but Rory Kinnear was in it.
Actually didn’t know she was still alive, let alone only in her 80s. Good for her.
I can see right-wingers roll their eyes and say the very tired “w” word at Perry’s new, Japanese secretary.
Basically you have two non-historians (in an academic sense) writing books about H.H. Holmes and disagreeing, because the records about him are poor and largely consist of newspaper reports in an era when newspapers were pretty sensationalistic. In any rate, I always preferred the part of Larson’s book about the White…
Getting interested in a subject is usually the hardest step. Getting nitty gritty with details is the second hardest. I have a semi negative relationship with pop mostly because two fields I have interest in, female crime and pirate, don’t have a lot of good pop history and are fairly hard subjects to research. I do…
I love academic history. My pirate book which is my field is the fairly academic Treasure Neverland by Neil Rennie and not something pop like David Cordinglys Beneath the Black Flag. I do agree about the concerns and stereotypes associated with it.
I’ll give a little bit of what Dash said about that as well, because it’s a really interesting bit of context on some of the issues facing people who write popular history.
Man, The Knick was a fantastic show. One of the most underrated and under-watched shows of recent times, next to Manhattan and Halt and Catch Fire. Might catch up on this just to catch S2 (heard S1 was pretty good + Matthew Rhys are also bonuses).
Agreed, but attempted rape is still sexual assault.
