Well we were nominated. We probably won't win. But we will go out afterwards and get wasted on the network's dime. Which is its own kind of win.

I know that it's really in right now to have really bleak books with no likable characters, but those books always fall flat to me no matter how many times I try. I like to have someone to root for, to celebrate. But I know why others don't. To each their own, right?

Sweet Jesus, what a beautiful woman.

Congratulations, Ms. Jeantel! I hope that your future holds great things, no matter what you decide to do.

That was a LOT to go through for a teenager... losing your friend WHILE on the phone with them, having to testify at their murder trial, and deal with internet douchenozzles. I mean, that's pretty fucking rough. Good on her for getting through all that AND with a diploma! Noice!

Congratulations Rachel. All good things for you.

I agree, people are good and kind to each other every day. But the population wouldn't be approaching 9 billion if half those people had more bodily autonomy/access to education/importance, and fewer people would not detract from the kindnesses.

I'm not an adult film star, but I do have an adult job that involves nudity. Stuff like this really worries me. Will my bank suddenly stop cashing my checks because they Google the company they come from? What other services can I legally be denied for working in the adult industry?

That's a fair assessment. But it doesn't change my dissatisfaction with the ending.

Don't put anyone up on a pedestal, I guess. I don't remember the Cosby thing at all, but I was living in Japan when it happened, so it was probably never on the news or anything there. If Hugh Jackman suddenly gets accused of rape or starts ranting about an international Jewish conspiracy, I'm out.

I hope you're not insulted that I said you were influenced by rape culture; I meant it as an underlying bias most people struggle with, rather than that you don't believe rape victims. As for not wanting the charges to be true, I hope that's because you hope a child wasn't raped, not because you don't want to see your

Many cases of child sexual abuse, particularly within families, don't end up in criminal court. Sometimes this is because of concerns about the effect of trial on the victim. Sometimes it's because a DA doesn't think the case is winnable in front of a jury. Sometimes it's a combination of both.
Allen wasn't charged in

Interesting that you bring up systems here. I would argue that rape is distinct from other violent crimes because of a system that keeps it normal and silent: rape culture. While it's not written into the way we govern the country, rape culture is implicit in everything, including reactions to crimes. I suggest

I think what people are pointing out here is, if someone told you they were robbed at gunpoint, you wouldn't say, "Where's your evidence?" You would believe them. So why wouldn't you trust a woman or child who said they were sexually assaulted? I'm not being rhetorical - I think a lot of folks really need to answer
