I get the feeling she's likely seeing those dollar signs popping up too. Or she wouldn't have done any of it to begin with.

Today I learned that a descriptive adjective can actually be hate speech. Except... it's not. "Fat" is hateful?

Via the CDC:

Odd trend these days: justifying and promoting unhealthy lifestyles on the basis of "anti-shame."

Being fat is unhealthy and a drain on the medical system, rising costs for everyone. Being fat has no positive effect on body and society, and on top of that, being fat is a first world privilege.

There is the element of "I just talked myself out of it" that, whether it is offensive to me or not, perpetuates a dangerous myth.

The images were shot by known sexual predator Terry Richardson. Here is some particularly salient proof that he is not only a horrible person whom no one should work with but also a hack:

I was thinking the same thing. On the one hand, it is great to have people out there and talking about depression as a real problem, but on the other it does seem rather like she is implying that positive thinking got her out of it.

I don't want to downplay her depression, because I have suffered clinical depression since I was 16. But...why is it everytime I hear her speak or read her thoughts she seems forever 17 years old? The drama, the angst.

I think this concept is something English/Liberal Arts majors just can't comprehend. Policies like these aren't written to be creative intellectual expressions of self and individuality - they're not intended to be anyone's intellectual property. They're there to establish best practices and share information between

Um, that's not an uncommon practice? When I was in college for emergency management, we were assigned a project of developing emergency response guidelines for the school - stuff like active shooters, bleacher collapse, fires, flooding, earthquakes, etc. and we were allowed and encouraged to take protocols from other

Not defending the University's handling of the case or their lack of attention to their own policy, but this is not a plagiarism problem. A decent public administrator would always look at other, similar institution's policies and maybe even replicate whole cloth if they are good. That would be implementing "best

Um, this is how lawyers do their work. You follow what people are doing. You crib, the ethics of the profession are about cribbing. This isn't school, and their is no rule that says you can't see good legal language and use it. The reason they make you do that in school is because they want you to learn the material.

That's standard legal practice, Callie. Borrow a broilerplate form policy from a university that has actually, 100% successfully dealt with the problem of rape on campus no wait I just threw up on my work shoes.

Paunchy? Look who's body snarking now.

So you would deprive these children of an education to make sure that all schools have a science class you approve of?
...
But if you want to bring poverty and ignorance to these children because you can't stand not getting your way and having everyone believe what you believe

I guess I just have an

Yaaaay!

The only thing that threw me about this article is...identifying your gender at age 2? That very notion disturbs me, because generally children don't have a gender identity at all at such a young age. How did she identify it? By liking barbies? It worries me that people would see one gender enjoying

She basically won the jackpot for a tv sports personality. This is the kind of moment they are hoping for when they do those interviews. It's incredibly paternalizing to assume she'd be scared so it's really got the whole racism/sexism 1-2 punch going on. Whee!

Women only care about football because of the hot guys.

Fall asleep... with a complete stranger in my bed? Not in this lifetime or the next. Nooooo way. This is why I could never do one night stands. What if they don't leave when it is sleepy time? Nope, nope, nope.
