Jezebel and Gawker Media,

I don't think many people define ANY part of their body as one they don't need. Sure, a pinky finger or a boob is less vital to functioning than your heart. But I still wouldn't want to have my pinky finger cut off.

Surely you can't be serious. Do you really not understand the difficulty in deciding to either undergo major surgery to irreversibly change your body or get a potentially fatal disease?

Tell me, are you completely unable to see anything other than your own viewpoint on every subject or is it just this one?

"Many women will die of cancer because they don't have access to the same kind of care as Jolie."

Also, I am sorry that you think it is over the top to celebrate one woman's ability to educate other women on ways to improve their health outcomes. Where I come from, that is called progress.

I am sorry, I missed the part where I said, "I am worried about Angelina Jolie's making this decision having a very real financial impact on her profession." I can't believe I have to state this explicitly, but apparently I do - I was stating an opinion on why this decision may be difficult for her, not my own

Maybe think about the fact that we are discussing an actual human being who had to make an actual decision that was difficult for her, and not just some automaton that you can project whatever socio-cultural issues you want onto her. Whether or not you approve of the fact that it was a difficult decision for her, it

Did I say I was worried about Angelina Jolie's financial well-being? No, I did not. You were the one asking all faux-innocently why this decision should be a difficult one for her. I just provided some potential answers, ones that any person who wasn't looking for a reason to denigrate her decision to go public

I think it really depends on the person. For some, it is difficult and heart-wrenching. For others it's not such a big deal. My mom had a mastectomy nearly 20 years ago and didn't have reconstruction and while it was an adjustment for her, it wasn't that big of a deal. She was just happy they caught the cancer early

Yes, because having money means she'll never get sick and die. Here's a hint: Money doesn't buy happiness. It can buy off some unhappiness.

No I saw that flippant little comment.

Right. And between the encouragement to be proactive and consider preventive care as viable, I think Jolie's deeper message is one of solidarity and empowerment, for women to face these challenges with courage. I don't see the problem with that.

Wow. I just.....Wow. I don't know how to tell you if you truly don't get it. Just rest easy knowing you are so much better than us that would be upset about losing our breasts.

Well not everyone is so casual about losing body parts.

I would go so far as to classify that question as inhuman. If you don't know, I really can't think of a way to explain it to you.

The way everyone is carrying on you'd think she was Gwyneth or something, jeez!

Let's be real — a lot of her detractors didn't get past the headline before they clicked "Discuss."

Exactly. She's a mother, one who remembers losing her own mother to breast cancer, and making this decision (hopefully) prevents her own children from knowing that pain. No amount of money can replace the loss of a parent.

Don't you know rich people have no feelings?
