Yes, yes they are needed. The reason I say that is because if you put touch controls ON the screen your taking away realestate that can be used to view the game. If you need to do anything besides a basic search. DuckDuckGo. I use it for searching for things in general. But if I need images or things like that, I am forced to use Google. Hopefully, DuckDuckGo grows a bit more and they start up with the images and so on.
