This person clearly does not fully think through things here. All a tax like this would do is penalize people who financially need penalized the least. Like it or not, cars (and in most cases gas) are needs, not wants for most people to live.

So, penalize the most financially insecure people the most, got it. Excessive tax on what essentially come out as needs, is the worst idea of all. You are essentially saying, “sorry you are poor, but know you are poorer. Good luck with that!”

I highly doubt the +GP is around the corner. They need to dig out of a $43k hole while selling trucks/SUV’s for $70-100k, that is a big ask.

I guess so, because “incredible” is the last word I would use to describe this unless you added another word like “bad, odd, weird, not good, etc...”

Responding to multiple people that didn’t/don’t read Rivian financials and are assuming the wrong thing, sorry?

If you don’t have comprehensive, the insurance company doesn’t care. They aren’t paying out on a liability only policy. I don’t know CA insurance rules, but I would bet a lot of people aren’t getting anything from insurance if their car gets stolen and get hit with a tow/store bill.

You are ignoring the fact that in ‘22 demand was high and prices were too. Since then, they have had to cut prices as demand has fallen, leading to deteriorating numbers. They had 2 quarters that showed improvement and then the last 3 quarters it got worse QoQ and they are guiding toward flat production in ‘24

That works too, it is pretty bad looking, IMO.

Me too. It is awkward and just odd looking.

And I am not a fan of those either.

Got ya, good insight. As I and others have said, unfortunately, by the time they arrived there was no real rush most likely.

Total gross profit for the quarter was negative $606 million. Gross profit per vehicle delivered was approximately negative $43,000.”

From Rivian’s Q4 ‘23 earnings call.

Uhh, Rivan’s GP in q4 of 2023 was -$43k. That does not include SG&A or R&D.

For Rivian, from their financials and earnings call, they lost $43k per car sold in gross profit in Q4 2023. That does not include R&D or selling expenses.

Incredible is not the whole phrase or word I would use. Maybe incredibly weird or odd would fit better? Because “good” would not be a decriptor I would use.

Yea, I know that. Like others and I have said, by the time they arrived, it was most likely too late. Hence the time lapse from arrival to extraction.

Yea, or why her friends didn’t do more. That would haunt me until the end if I wasn’t there ASAP beating the shit out of windows to save my friend.

Well, I assumed there was alcohol involved from the jump. I still think a regular handled gear shift is a better and easier solution. Very hard to mistake R and D when you are doing a real physical motion over either buttons or a small stalk with no delineation.

ND just for the “600hp” claim, we all know it isn’t true.
