The $40k figure is interesting... I have a 3 mile round trip drive to work. While I can't say that I feel that much happier, I've definitely saved a ton of money on gas, miles on my car, tires, etc. Oh, and sleeping in until 45 minutes before I have to be at work is pretty awesome, too. That still leaves me enough

yup

I ran from the cops once - successfully. Scene - short divided highway (no center barrier), San Diego area. Mother-in-law's car, wife in right front, M-I-L in the back seat. Passed by a right turn I was supposed to make, went a bit further and pulled into the center median to make a 'U'. Cop goes by me on right before

My crappy NYC apartment does this naturally ;)

It's amazing the Deadspin reaction of a correctly interpreted and admittedly shitty rule compared to an incorrect missed call the week before. The Lions and their fans have a reason to whine, the refs literally did not interpret the rule book correctly when they missed what should have been at least an extra play on a

This couldn't have been scripted any better. Reading a Dallas newspaper has never been so enjoyable. One play doesn't make or break a game! Remember that Cowboys fans. It was great advice you gave Lions fans last week.

Ball hit ground; ball came loose: no catch. Not hard to understand that the ground cannot help you catch a pass. Doesn't hurt that it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy/team.

Just to be clear with everyone, these are the myths you have listed. So the opposite of them is the truth.

Jesus man, don't you think there are better uses of your time than scouring every single car magazine that's ever been published in Germany for their advice on warming up your car?

Easy solution to not having to suffer all of these articles is to route the catalyst directly into the passenger compartment.

I usually give it about 20-30 seconds if it's warm/hot outside, and about 30-60 when it's cold, then I try and keep the RPMs down below 3k until I actually see the needle move up past "Cold". Today, that took like 5-6 minutes of driving before it moved since it was 7 degrees.

I tell my clients to throw their scale out the window. Seriously, don't weight at all. Measuring your progress by the number on the scale is like measuring your net worth by the amount of change in your pocket. Get a seamstress' tape measure and take measurements.

While I certainly see the value in this approach, I prefer to just weigh myself every day and look at the overall trend.

My dealership put a relatively thin but noticeable foot-long vertical scratch in my drivers side door. I didn't notice it until I got home, then immediately called them and told them about it.

They probably could have just claimed I did it on the way home, which I wouldn't really hold against them if they genuinely

Only tangentially related, but can I just add that you (individuals, stores, etc) should never set your heat higher than where you would ideally set your AC.

I don't really run into cold weather where I'm at and my dog has a double coat, but I always make a habit of checking his paws and coat for irritants (spurs, ticks, debris) after outings. Some simple paw hygiene can go a long way in helping prevent extreme cases of "frito feet".

My fool of a brother and his bovine wife are always wailing how 'poor' they are (together they bring in $80k/year) and I've repeatedly explained in words of two or fewer syllables it's because they eat at least 1 meal out per day (sometimes 2. sometimes all 3). They just stare at me, unblinking and uncomprehending.

I had the same experience. We were wondering where all of our money was going, so we started using Mint. I just about had a heart attack when I saw how much we had been spending on food.
