Regarding the sunglasses, for me it was just the opposite. Any cheap pair was doomed within a month. The first time I spent more than $20 on a pair (I think it was $80 or so), I had them for 2 years. I suppose I was more highly motivated to look after them. I don't buy cheap ones anymore.

The oddity was very obvious at first, but I couldn't decide what was wrong. When they re-inverted the image, it seemed to me that the effect was less obvious for the first second or so, but it was still there. After that, it was just as obvious as before to me.
