We have to reckon with past mistakes—and our collective habit of forming cults of personality around elected officials—so we can better understand the present and fight for the future we want.

Much of the P.E. misery was trying not to fart. Jumping jacks will always have that association for me.

Right. This is the reason that Republicans would love to disenfranchise elderly voters. And you only need look at the Supreme Court: they skew more progressive as they age, and see the concrete effects of abstract policy.

I've never given that quote much thought except that it's for cynics but....your explanation...AHA

I’m of the the opinion that no show should last more than 10 years. Culture changes too quickly and as we saw with Ellen, you retire a legend or stay on the air long enough for your skeletons to be exposed. (That’s how the saying goes right?)

Jane Seymour says “6. I was useless [in] P.E. I could only climb a rope” and I just had nightmare flashbacks to being 3 inches up the rope, feeling like I was 6 feet up the rope and hoping I don’t fart on the rope holder aaaaaand I’m done, my arms gave out.

Fran Lebowitz is wrong about people growing more conservative as they age. It’s a myth. The reality is that rich people live longer and rich people tend to skew Republican.

Obama actively chose a moderate, neoliberal administration though. There is plenty a president can do to affect policy without passing legislation, and Obama absolutely did not use his Cabinet for a progressive vision.

I really see a daytime talk show as a bad choice for Tiffany Haddish... She’d kill it, but it feels like a way to wind up a career and I think she has the potential to do so much more. She’s had some success but I don’t think she’s reached anywhere near her theoretical peak.

High level comment here

thank you, means a lot!

I am largely indifferent about this woman and have not seen a single one of her films, but the fact that you think it is antisemitic to be critical of a message about the latest israel/palestinian conflict from Gal Gadot—an actress who has very publicly supported the IDF in the past—is odd.

Starting to think you might be my favorite writer here, honestly. And it’s not just because of your article, but how you’re laying out all the ignorant fools in the comment thread with straight facts.

Wasn’t DQ XI announced kinda flippantly as well? Like, we knew there would be a Switch port before a single screenshot was shown. Or am I misremembering?

This is racist. You probably don’t even see it, because that’s how racism works, and people never see it when they’re being racist, but you’re being racist right now regardless of whether you think so or not.

Please point out where I blamed Gal Gadot for Israel’s decades long subjugation of Palestinians.

Not once do you mention that it’s Hamas, a recognized terrorist organization launching rockets at Israeli civilians

Gadot literally didn’t bother saying “Palestine” or “Palestinians” in her message.

Nobody is expecting her to say “death to Israel” and nobody said she’s accountable for the actions of the Israeli government. It’s not antisemitic to condemn violence perpetrated by the Israeli government.
