As the proud owner of an orange car (for 19 years), I am still astounded at the buttholery of some of the self-righteous among us. I have to say, I haven’t run into anything like Korey here, but I’ve certainly heard my share of derisive comments from the chromatically-taste challenged....
Funny thing is, Venice at night is even more amazing than during the day. A vast majority of visitors are day-trippers. They leave by sundown. My advice is, stay in Venice, spend money if you can afford it. Soak up the history...
Venice....one of the truly remarkable places that engage in negative tourism. They had problems in 1764, and they’re even worse today, almost exponentially so....
Agreed, but sort of not true. There are many parts of Venice where tourists dare not tread, only because they fear getting lost (incredibly easy to do). 80% of tourists never leave the Piazza San Marco area for this reason. Me, I love getting lost there. The real Venetian neighborhoods are where it’s interesting...
I used to have a job that took me to Venice about 150 times. The folks there have been bitching about the cruise ships forever. They did actually get them banned at one point after many years of effort. The ban lasted about 6 months after the wheels were greased (€€€). Saw this there last summer after a far too long…

Obviously you were given a car better suited for city driving. Garmisch to Innsbruck (und züruck) in winter is not that. Glad to see you got to make some turns on the ‘Classic’. 30 years in Garmisch has taught this American, don’t expect much from underpowered rentals. In fact, don’t expect to consider the thought!
