We’re approaching Maximum Overdrive more and more each day.

An in-law once saw water dripping from a car’s exhaust and remarked that the driver must be buying cheap gas that had water in it. (Water is one of the main products of burning gas.)

And everyone who drives a Subaru has someone reason they’ve convinced themselves they absolutely NEED AWD and they share the reason emphatically with everyone who will listen.

You would be surprised how much of what’s “fun” in an enthusiast car is actually code for uncomfortable or complicated.

“Always buy a GMC truck instead of a Chevy because GMC uses thicker sheet metal for the body.  Professional grade!”

It’s ok to say, I deserve to be comfortable and to be able to do a 7 hour drive without feeling like I just ran a marathon. It’s OK to say, yeah, I really don’t want to “feel the road” because the road is a poorly maintained piece of garbage. It’s OK to say, I want my partner not to hate driving with me. :)

Everytime I hear this I pull up the 59 Bel Air vs the 09 Malibu front quarter crash test on Youtube.  Shuts them up with the quickness.

A couple of years after my youngest nephew started driving, he was very confident in telling his mother that she needed to top off her wiper fluid, as it was required for windshield wipers to operate. His reasoning was that since there is brake fluid, transmission fluid, etc., wipers worked under the same principle.…

Honestly, most of the dumbest stuff I’ve ever heard about cars comes from enthusiasts and is best summed up as “there’s only one way to enjoy cars, and that’s my way.”

I still hear people complain about how cars used to be safer because they used more steel. A lot less often than I heard that in 90s, but it still leaves me dumbfounded every so often. They’re not even all boomers, either.

I’ve known several people who thought their car got good mileage because it didn’t cost much to fill up the tank.

Seriously, GM and Ford should not be the *model* for many things, but they at least get this a transition to EV’s had an extended in-between period where you had many of both products. What was this idiot thinking?
