Yeah, the Texas voter ID laws are meant to suppress voters - particularly women (because they change their name when they get married) and minorities - we've had a few local women in politics get challenged on their IDs because the vote with their maiden name.

Texas re-districting was supposed to be done once each decade, bearing in mind the results of the census, except now it can basically be done whenever the Texas Legislature gets a burr up its collective butt. Gerrymandering is making the district lines safer for one party, or to alter minority voter participation.
