I’m not sure it’s about trusting your beliefs over everyone else, as it is not trusting mob actions.
It’s probably just my perception, but it seems that most people that get their underwear twisted are the authors that wrote autobiographic elements into their story, so criticism of their work can feel more like a personal attack than an actual critique.

God, yes. Culp had great comedic chops, and just ran with it. My favorite ‘Bill’ bit had to be when the crew is escorting a mob mistress to the Courthouse to testify, and Bill takes them to a safe house with no food in it, well ALMOST no food in it.

Part of the issue here is that the kid in question is flagged as special education. The parents had been attending classes with their kid as part of that - which is pretty unusual to begin with. I’m unclear on the details but something came up and the parent who was supposed to be there that day/week was unable to go.

Interestingly enough, Hammett is one of those movies that’s an interesting mess. The director, Wim Wenders, directed about 30% of the actual film, while Francis Ford Coppola directed the rest.
I gotta disagree about Alien 3. I think it brings a lot of interesting world building to the table while it gives us the toughest guy we’ve seen in the entire franchise: Leonard Dillon, played by Charles S. Dutton. Who gets into a FIST FIGHT with the Alien.
