Part of the issue here is that the kid in question is flagged as special education. The parents had been attending classes with their kid as part of that - which is pretty unusual to begin with. I’m unclear on the details but something came up and the parent who was supposed to be there that day/week was unable to go.
You’ll be happy to know the pro-Marvel people (as opposed to the pro-DeSantis people) have weighed in and are generally excited about this movie and have pushed the pro-DeSantis people off the primary comments section.
