The Sentient Meat is right, it isn't dying. The same thing was said about the 3DS last year before we got games like Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 as well as Monster Hunter 3G hitting in Japan.

The original Final Fantasy games weren't as long as they have become. You could really beat the original Final Fantasy in around 25 hours I believe.
