Yeah I was like 7 when Pokemon Red came out and had zero difficulty beating it. The main part of the games has gotten way easier since then.

Agreed. With these lists you spend so much time wading through garbage that your eyes can kind of glaze over, making you miss interesting sounding ones.

I would imagine because being on the oldest device possible could lead to slowness or other issues on some games. Plus Apple does have a nasty tendency to say “Sorry, we’re making so this only works in the latest OS now, and your device won't get it. Buy a new one or go fuck yourself". 

And on a side note:

As someone else who has played the game similar to other people who have replied to you, I will agree that you are missing out on an experience by skipping the game and not doing the SP.

The funny thing is you can replace Politico with Splinter and it is just as true.
