Terrible people for turning off a microphone? You need to recalibrate your expectations for people. Good people can be flawed, can have opinions that are wrong and even hurtful to others.

The weirdest part about this for me is that a 12 year old is confidently declaring a sexual orientation. The fact that a Mormon church function doesn’t really embrace modern liberal principles definitely does not shock me. Also, what is a ‘stake president’?

It’s kind of hilarious that you could accuse her of both ignoring issues of race by whitewashing a film AND cultural appropriation. Is every movie about peri-Civil War United States obligated to deeply address race and be made by a black director, writer and cast?

Just as an experiment, I asked my nearest coworkers if they played video games. I asked 5 women and 3 men; all 3 men played video games (as I do, so that’s 4). None of the women do. Hmm. So I’m sure some women play video games, but I have to think their share of all gamers is small-ish. Of course I don’t work at a

I didn’t read it that way, but agree that it would be wrong if that was the underlying opinion.

Probably true, yeah. Bekaby to me is pulling that apart and asking ‘wait, if it was rape by virtue of no consent is there physical trauma? and then, by extension, if there is physical trauma then maybe it was more than is being portrayed.

Probably because the production company is the defendant with money and a hefty insurance policy? No real point in suing DeMario to get a judgment he’ll never be able to pay.

The laws you are referring to are ‘travel to a place for X’ laws, not ‘you committed a crime in another jurisdiction that is sovereign, but we’re going to prosecute you here for it.’ Two Americans living in Singapore, one murders the other, you can’t charge the murderer in New York just because they are both American.

I think that is an over-simplification; in law there is a process to determine capacity to consent that has usage past sexual assault allegations. Being too drunk to consent means you can’t sign a contract, complete a verbal agreement, assent to a search or waive legal rights, etc. I think there are plenty of cases

Are you not a litigator by training? Or as a litigator by trade, is it common to add distinguishing language that adds no additional information? (compare to ‘I’m a litigator’). Just curious, seriously, because ‘by trade’ and ‘by training’ are pretty uncommon phrases these days.

You live in a world with a lot more certainty and black and white than there is here in the real world, where its plenty possible to be too drunk to murder or rape.

The OP of this comment thread from Bekaby is how much trauma can be present; obviously, someone can have emotional trauma from discovering a crime after the fact. But for a non-violent rape (i.e. no force), it’s a valid question whether there is physical trauma, and if so what kind. The presence of physical trauma

It’s relevant to what he was replying to, which is how much physical trauma can someone experience from being raped because of a legal incapacity as opposed to a violent attack.

I think you assumed he assumed a whole lot of shit, without much in the way of basis just reading the plain language of his comment. Maybe you should go back to what he said, Me(burner numbers), and see if you weren’t filling in a lot of those blanks yourself on his behalf.

It has to do with the PHYSICAL TRAUMA experienced, obviously.

Beyond false advertising, making the nebulously defined ‘cultural appropriation’ offense against the law is ridiculous. Whatever you think of damning someone for this supposed transgression, moving from social backlash to legal violation is sliding all the way down the slope straight into the arms of repressing and

It only says she called him mentally ill; but the headline describes him as mentally disabled. Which isn’t necessarily wrong, although for many years advocates of various sorts have pushed others to stop using the term ‘disabled.’

You didn’t list manic schizophrenia as a diagnosis; I imagine if you were to have that condition or know some people who do, you might be more open to describing it as a disability.

This post is severely in need of some copy-editor attention, or at least a little author proof-reading.

It’s funny that you call him a talking head, since he’s paralyzed from the neck down.
