Nope, I think filmmakers make films to appeal to audiences. The Academy will never be a substantial audience, and few filmmakers are going to focus their efforts on appealing to them. Fewer still will focus on appealing to a minority of Academy members.

You said you thought having a diverse Academy picking award nominees and winners would lead to a more diverse set of movies. I don’t see how that is the case. Yes, film festivals and some producers and directors target films with diverse casts and subject matters. How will having more non-white people in the Academy…

Diversity in the Academy leading to diversity in produced films seems like a faulty assumption. The majority of films are made for market - i.e. to sell tickets. Those that aren’t are art films or passion projects etc. I think it would be unusual for a movie to get made with the specific primary goal of an Academy…

I didn’t ask for a quota, but obviously there is some threshold of appropriateness that is higher than what we’ve seen recently. Would an average of 10% or 15% indicate the Academy had successfully diversified? Or should the target be 40%? 50%?
