I am a Black Christian and this is my response to any and every story about Kim Davis and/or Mike Huckabee.

C’mon. I can have a raging ladyboner over P&P and still not want to give myself pneumonia wearing a wet tissue-paper-thin dress.

I read it so I could forward it to my husband and tell him to buy me a bottle of bourbon because Wife Lady is drinking hard tonight.

Yep. Part of the Complete Writer Cliche` Set is the “wallpaper his Writer Nook with rejection slips” trope. Rejection doesn’t necessarily mean your piece is bad—it could mean it needs more work, or that said publisher simply can’t use it right now—but it can also mean that you’re more in love with this piece than it

I love poetry (literally have favorite poems, poets, lines that make me tear up a little, etc) but also I am very very mentally ill. So like much of art, it only makes sense to people who are overdramatic and wrong in the head.

Must be a slow news day over at Vox - who I have never heard of until today and have zero interest in reading more about.

catholic: including a wide variety of things; all-embracing.

Everyone calls it Whole Paycheck. No one calls it Whole Check except for Jezebel.

In Austin (where they originated and where the HQ still is) friends of mine and I used to call them Whole Paycheck.

Helen Castor is one of the best writers working in a serious, scholarly field. I wrote her a fan email after reading Blood and Roses which was terrific. She was kind enough to reply! Even to a gape mouthed medievalist with no great claim to fame. I look forward to reading this book.

Charlize Theron: You dodged a bullet, girl. And thankfully didn’t have to use one on that wifebeater Penn.

Is there marginalized identity this woman won't claim? I think all that's left is disabled, but if she says she has BPD or PTSD that one is covered too.

Speaking of misogyny, I’m surprised I haven’t seen a JFK conspiracy theory in which Jackie shot him. I think that’s the only ridiculous angle that hasn’t been promoted.

You could have done better than 10% women authors. "Parable of the Sower?" "Left Hand of Darkness?" Lots of other possibilities.
