Aw, what a cute little circle you guys have made. Ima give you your privacy.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the way it delivers the energy behind the slap is also important. A punch is designed to concentrate the energy behind it into a relatively small area, while a slap distributes the energy broadly. A consequence of that is that the vibration of the material (skull, skin, etc) set up by the

People have actually died of water intoxication. It’s no laughing matter.

At least no one’s bitching about how the techniques being used here aren’t “real” AI...

Having a rational argument about what the Bible means and how to interpret it is so hard with hardline believers of God’s hand in the creation of the Bible.

I’m pretty sure he means the bit where the kingdom of Judah was invaded, conquered, and dismantled by the Babylonian Empire.

May want to edit that title if it’s still possible, Mike. I thought you were talking about some sort of game when I read “HyperX Could Revolver.”

If I spot a motorcyclist on the road, I do my damnedest to keep track of him and make sure I don’t do something stupid that puts him/her in danger.

As much as people whine and bitch about government projects, NASA consistently does astonishing things with the pittance in funding it gets. I’d like to see NASA get more funding, but I wonder if they would see quite so much success if they had carte blanche. I think it’s a pretty central part of the NASA culture now—

Suicide burns always look way too fast, but they aren’t— they’re just right. The skip is more likely due to overthrust tipping the velocity back into positive vertical velocity for a moment.

That was because one of the locking mechanisms didn’t work because water vapor had frozen inside it. The leg deployed but didn’t get locked down, so it just folded back up when weight was put on it.

This is essentially a suicide burn, so I’m pretty sure it was about that; the little skip was probably it overthrusting a little at the end, which tipped it over into positive vertical speed for a moment.

Yeah, I had the same reaction. I think if it hadn’t skipped to the side like that it would have been right on the center-line of the barge.

Yeah, red waves are pretty dangerous, all that red algae. ;)

His definition of AI is the actual definition of AI. Siri is something called “weak AI” or “narrow AI.” What you’re expecting AI to be is called “strong AI” or “artificial general intelligence.”

Siri is something called “weak AI.” You’re expecting strong AI.

Siri is something called “weak AI;” what you’re expecting is called “strong AI.” They’re very different, but they’re still both AI.

As I mentioned to Sean Hodgins, I’m very impressed at your patience in dealing with so many people aggressively conflating strong AI and weak AI.

So many people in this thread aggressively conflating strong ai/AGI and all AI in general is so painful. Kudos to you and Flying Squid for your patience and gentle corrections.

Congratulations on not having to update the post title this time! :P
