I think there's some confusion over this point. I don't think she really said she doesn't like playing games, it's that it's hard for her to do now— she doesn't have time and the combat aspects were never her favorite part, hence the suggestion that you might have a way to go through the game in "combat lite" mode.
Yeah, as irritating as Resonance of Fate's battle system can get to be, at least it doesn't go out of its way to make itself worse over the course of the game.

Odd, I picked this up from Amazon on a lark just a few months ago for... well, it was free with the two other games I bought. As I understand it, though, it was selling for MSRP.
Truthfully, this *is* the one aspect that China and Korea have us bettered in. They have plenty of experience in this kind of model, and it seems to work— though a closer examination may well reveal all the issues you've outlined.
