They are pretty Hefty, But everything has grown a lot. I think the New Golfs are even big... I own an 06' explorer myself and I love it. It's the newest generation of the Explorer thats turned me sour. It's basically just a lifted taurus that pisses me off. The SUV that were designed the "easy way" the new Cherokee ,

I think you are missing the point. What made the Jeep XJ the staple of the off road Community isn't as much what its statistics were when it was stock. Its what guys like me were able to do with it relatively inexpensively. Now it was no slouch when it was stock but after add a locker and some beefier tires and it

Now that the Explorer is complete and utter shit! This and the Grand Cherokee (which share a platform if I am correct) are the best looking midsize SUV's on the market. Both are handsome, tough looking and are well equipped. The Grand Cherokee especially has a really nice interior.

It was a combination of things really, At the time a combination of really soft Bilstein shocks, which caused scalloped tires + one of the track bar bolts being a bit loose. Once I tightened the track bar and rotated the tires all was good.

I have all of the suspension issues, Death wobbles, vibrations and the like. But I can really beat on my truck. As far as the rest of the truck though, she runs like clockwork. Thanks BTW.

The front Bumper is a JCR unit with some other stuff welded on, My rear is a custom job though. 220k miles on the clock and 100k by me and she hasn't left me on the side of the road yet... (FINGERS CROSSED!!)

If someone gave me the keys to this and said have at it, I would beat the SHIT out of this thing. I wouldn't spend a dime of my own money on one though.

In the process of modifying my jeep I've replaced or removed at one point all of the suspension, drive train and most of the interior. I've also worked on many mustangs explorers and other fords in the family and working on the Jeep is absurdly simple. replacing the exhaust manifold in my mustang was ridiculous by

Now playing

Simple, Effective, Visual, and all sorts of awesome!

I thought the exhaust manifold job was a peach. In-line six motor in a decently roomy engine bay... there are worse manifold jobs to be had. I Think that as much as people cried when Jeep introduced the uni-body XJ, a lot of that was because the Unibody Truck thing hadn't really been done before, it was unproven and

You answered your own question. The Hate stems from the fact that they took a car/namesake that practically dominates a market full of enthusiasts. Thousands of people that hear the name Cherokee and have a set definition and Idea for that name. They took the name and cut off its balls and gave the weak, limp wristed

Stock performance aside ( becasue really no one has tried it yet) The big problem for me is I feel for the kid in 20 years that wants to build a newer truck other than a Wrangler, there is barley any choice! You could modify a XJ for peanuts and spit, but lifting or doing anything to a Jeep like this would be

Nope, Sorry m8 , I'll have to say that this is growing on me, and while it may have a modicum of capability, It couldn't hold a candle to a stock XJ. I've been there and back again in a stock XJ and while I do Romanticize the the Original, Its capabilities are no joke.

I wasn't so sure about it either until I saw one in person as was pretty impressed. The lines one the front are sharp and purposeful, instead of vague and lazy like on the previous gen, and the rear end looks very nice, and relatively unique especially when compared with the other cars. Its not a design the everyone

4th gear. I havent really liked a lot of what lincoln has done since they discontinued the LS, but with the changes to the styling that they have done I am really starting to see the point of Lincoln. Up until recently lincoln has just been rebadged Fords that weren't as good looking or much better equipped for the

You explained it perfectly. A Jeep Cherokee should be about nothing more than utilitarian functionality without the removable roof, and if you want to add a bit of luxury get the Grand Cherokee. Not only were the trucks simple but the naming convention was too. If they had taken the grand cherokee, made it a bit

I was up @ 2 to watch the Aussie GP and half the fun of watching the race was the pit stops. I dont think these guys could get any faster, hell I dont even think automated machines could do it better.

Found it! @ 19:00

No, the Reliant Scimitar. I was referencing an old Top Gear news segment, that for the life of me I havent been able to find a clip of....

3. Because here's some cars currently owned by the Jalopnik staff: a Merkur Xr4Ti, two old VW Beetles (one Baja), a Reliant Scimitar, and a Miata.
