Violence isn’t a mental illness. Mentally ill people are far more likely to be victims of violence than violent themselves, and reinforcing the misconception directly hurts vulnerable people.

A high functioning actor with ASD can’t know what it’s like to have ASD so severe they are completely non-verbal any more than a neurotypical actor can.

There’s no need to defend this. If the show runner can acknowledge the problem and pledge to do better in the future, there’s no reason why you can’t acknowledge it, or at the very least refrain from actively defending it.

Even in “Western” countries the average life expectancy for trans people is roughly 35, mostly due to violence against Black trans women, and suicide due to social and family rejection.

Wilful ignorance and blindness aren’t the same thing. It’s well past time we phase out using disability as metaphor for things we don’t like.
