Yeah I live in suburban Melbourne. However my Dad's family is from the country so I do go there occasionally and I still haven't ever seen any dangerous spiders for some reason (brown snakes are another matter)...

I am also a Melbournite, but maybe I've just been lucky. I don't really go camping either, so that might factor into it.

Oh I've definitely seen big spiders around, just not any poisonous ones like the Redback or Funnel web.
