If you asked me what the best PC game (or game period) is I would probably say HL1. It's incredibly good, especially for it's time. I wouldn't say the following games/series are "much greater" but they are certainly in the conversation:

Z51 Package. The ZR1 is not in C7 form yet.

A great number of people would disagree with you. And to this day, it is still THE greatest PC game of all time. Great pacing, story, atmosphere! Not one game in the past 5 years pales in comparison.
