To be honest it’s probably not as bad as QLD, probably because 1) we have a proportional representation system which means neither of the major two parties really ever holds an outright majority and has to go into coalition with smaller parties which come from across the political spectrum, and 2) it’s not QLD…

Except in NZ we have no upper house, we’ve got a unicameral system. Which means all kinds of bullshit gets through quite easily. The only saving grace at the moment is that the ruling party's coalition partners are further left than they are (don’t ask) so some of the more destructive stuff doesn’t get through. But…
